Florida Recycling Summit at Port Tampa Bay Announces New Date

The Florida Recycling Summit at Port Tampa Bay will be held on Thursday, October 19.  Originally scheduled in September, the Summit was moved due to Hurricane Irma. 

This Tampa event will bring together top Florida businesses and associations to discuss recycling efforts in the state. 

Speakers will discuss current recycling trends and how recycling has positively impacted their company as well as consumers.

  • Port Tampa Bay Tenants Recycling Success Stories - Hear what Port Tampa Bay Tenants, Trademark Metal Recycling, TECO and Puraglobe, are recycling and how … it’s much more than paper, plastic and cans!
  • Tampa Bay Area Recycling Efforts - Tampa is the 3rd largest city in Florida and Hillsborough County ranks number 4.  However, the county is tied for first place in the state with a recycling rate of 82%.  Alita Kane, the Recycling Specialist with the City of Tampa and Travis Barnes, the Recycling Coordinator for Hillsborough County will discuss recycling efforts in the area and some of the challenges they face.
  • Florida Department of Environmental Protection Update - Karen Moore, Florida Department of Environmental Protection will talk about how DEP is working to increase Florida’s recycling rate. Learn about upcoming plans and how you can be part of the plan. 
  • Artificial Reef Program - Tampa Bay and Pinellas County have used a variety of materials to make artificial reefs such as clean concrete and heavy gauge steel products, discarded pipes and even old sunken boats.  Learn how they determine which materials to use and how it is positively affecting the marine habitat in the area.

The event will begin with a tour of Port Tampa Bay aboard the Bay Spirit II where attendees will learn about Port Tampa Bay, Florida’s largest and most diversified seaport, during an informative and educational harbor excursion. 

Special guest Hillsborough County Commissioner Sandra Murman will greet attendees after the tour at Terminal 2 – Port Tampa Bay and give opening remarks.  

Program begins at 9:00 am and the Summit will be held in Terminal 2 – Port Tampa Bay located at 651 Channelside Dr., Tampa, FL 33602. 

The cost to attend the Florida Recycling Summit at Port Tampa Bay is $75, and includes buffet luncheon catered by Publix and beverages provide by the Florida Beverage Association.   

The Summit is presented by the Florida Recycling Partnership and sponsored by Publix, Florida Beverage Association, Waste Management, Rooms To Go, Mosaic, Florida Ports Council, IBWA, Keep Florida Beautiful, and Action Environmental.
