Job Summary

As the Solid Waste lead in Orlando, your role is to grow the solid waste practice, provide technical leadership, and build and maintain staff morale. This will include providing quality control for proposals and reports, apply intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering and scientific principles and practices in broad assignment areas and related fields. You will be expected to serve as Project Director and/or reviewing principal on project deliverables, as well as to provide technical, contractual, and administrative support to Project Manager(s). Essential Duties and Responsibilities

As the SW leader for Orlando, your role will include serving as a key business development representative of the firm to provide technical foundations for development of larger long-term projects, implementing marketing programs, and actively promoting business development skills in all professional staff members commensurate with their experience, interests, and abilities. You will be responsible for preparing and implementing a formal annual business development plan for assigned activities. Monitor business development and strive for cost efficiency as well as long-term positioning in business development execution. Proposal preparation responsibilities include review of RFP’s; preparation of written proposals, qualification packages, and SF 330’s; prepare and conduct interviews with clients for new work; delegate to and supervise others in performing these proposal responsibilities. Encourage and support preparation and presentation of papers at seminars, conferences, and symposiums. Establish and maintain appropriate contact with local and regional community. Become and/or maintain an active presence in local professional and trade associations. Encourage office personnel to participate in professional activities for business opportunities and personal growth.

Train, mentor, and help develop technical skills of staff and Project Managers. Demonstrate by your approach to decision-making and interaction with staff that the company respects the individuality of its employees and has a commitment to the professional and personal development of all staff. Our expectation is for you to maintain and improve morale through professional development, involvement of employees in decision making, on-the-job training, outside education, and establishment of long-term opportunities for staff members.

The primary duties of the Solid Waste Engineer are to design and plan production for general solid waste projects including cell design, closures, solid waste facilities site layouts, horizontal and vertical control, grading and drainage, paving, site utilities, and associated solid waste engineering activities. Quantity calculations. Specifications and Contract Documents preparation. Permitting. Performs complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection, and modification or standard engineering techniques and procedures. May be viewed as a technical expert with recognized authority in an area of specialization that resolves problems of greater scope and complexity. May plan and develop projects or design activities which have significant impact on major company programs. May plan, organize, and supervise work of medium to large staff of professionals and technicians. Although may serve as project manager on larger projects, project management is not sole focus of position.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering or Science required.
  • Professional Registration (PE) or (PG) required preferably in the state of Florida or ability to receive reciprocity within 6 months.
  • Minimum of 10 years of solid waste experience (preferably within Florida), with proven increased responsibilities required.
  • Strong oral presentation and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and foster team spirit with all levels of personnel.
  • Valid driver's license with driving record in good standing required.

Staff Engineer – Solid Waste – Boca Raton, FL

Job Summary 

To support our ongoing environmental consulting business efforts, SCS Engineers is looking for an Engineer to become a long term asset to our growing practice in Boca Raton, Florida.  The qualified individual will be expected to provide engineering support to our existing solid waste practice consisting of landfill design, permitting, construction, and monitoring for private and municipal clients.  The individual will gain exposure to a wide variety of solid waste and environmental projects and have the opportunity for growth within the company. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Work may include both office and field activities, such as field meetings on engineering technical related issues with the client and/or other SCS supervising engineering staff
  • Oversight of construction activities, collection of samples, etc., as well as office activities including engineering analysis
  • Preparing plans and specifications, reports, permit applications, and proposals as needed
  • Occasional travel may be required

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in Civil, Environmental or Geotechnical Engineering required
  • 2-5 years’ experience in Solid Waste required
  • Professional Engineer or Engineer in Training is preferred 
  • Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D design software will be strongly considered
  • Experience working with environmental regulatory agencies preferred
  • Strong communication skills, oral and written (technical) are a must
  • Valid driver’s license with a driving record in good standing required

Project Manager – Solid Waste – Tampa, FL

Job Summary 

This position will be involved in strategic planning, marketing proposals, interviews, and will also be directly involved with public and private clients in marketing, project production, and related issues in the Tampa Landfill Gas market.  The individual will see that the work is planned, organized, controlled, and evaluated through a proactive project management system, and continuously implement, monitor, and support company policy.  They will also select, train, develop, and manage technical personnel. Responsibilities include project management, business development, and office management.  Project management will be for landfill gas projects, which may require design, engineering, permitting, construction and/or operations support. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities                     

Responsibilities for this position will include oversight for landfill gas group activities including staff recruitment and development, business development, growth and profitability, quality control, and fostering good overall team morale.   

  • Write technical reports, and conduct site visits to assist our clients.
  • Business development will include identifying opportunities, proposal writing, client visits, and attendance at conferences.
  • Some travel will be required.  Travel could include conducting site visits to clients and conferences.
  • Job duties will specifically include using Microsoft Word and Excel, and other relevant software.
  • A large portion of this job includes report and proposal writing and preparation. The candidate must be proficient in technical writing and editing.

 Qualifications                                                                               

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering required.
  • Minimum of 7 years relevant solid waste experience required. Landfill gas experience preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills and must be proficient with MS-Office software applications. 
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Florida preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with a driving record in good standing.
