SWANA WELCOMES OVER 1,200 WASTE AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT PROFESSIONALS TO WASTECON® 2024 FOR KNOWLEDGE-SHARING, PROBLEM-SOLVING, AND UNIQUE NETWORKING FUN

GRAPEVINE, TEXAS October 21, 2024 — Waste and resource management professionals from 50 U.S. states and territories and seven countries are convening at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine, Texas, this week for one of the largest gatherings of the solid waste and resource management community this year. SWANA is welcoming more than 1,200 attendees and 137 exhibitors and sponsors to the event, which also offers technical, leadership, and management sessions on the latest industry trends and innovations.

Attendees have access to four keynote general sessions, 53 unique concurrent sessions, and the expertise of 125 speakers from all facets of the solid waste and resource management industry. The program features a new, one-day course on treatment technologies and systems available to treat leachate for PFAS removal on site, and four experiential learning tours for those who enjoy hands-on experiences. The exhibit hall is alive with the latest technologies, leading service providers, and a unique networking opportunity via an on-the-show-floor pickleball tournament and open play.

“The hot topics this year are safety, extended producer responsibility, climate change, and the workforce. So much thought has gone into the program, and I am certain that everyone will walk away with fresh insights to improve all aspects of their work,” says Tammy Hayes, principal at CDM Smith, president of the SWANA board of directors, and an active SWANA member for over 30 years. “We’ve also got some big announcements this week, including presentation of our industry’s most prestigious awards and the unveiling of some exciting new plans for 2025, so stay tuned to SWANA social channels for the latest news!”

“The technical content is certainly a star of the show, and I am blown away by the products, vehicles, and expertise on display on the show floor,” says Amy Lestition Burke, executive director and CEO of SWANA. “And, of course, anyone who knows SWANA knows we always make sure to mix our learning with a little fun. It’s those personal interactions at SWANA events that lead to the career-building connections that boost our organizations and advance our own professional development.”
